So Culver's got a score in my book this weekend. I help out with my church's high school youth group, and this weekend we went on a ski trip to Mt. La Crosse. On the way, of course we had to stop for lunch and get fast food.
Well, a couple of us got Wendy's and walked over to Culver's where the rest of the group was getting food.
It's always a little awkward to walk into a restaurant with another restaurant's food in hand. Especially when three people sit down at a table with NO Culver's food at all.
The Manager happened to walk by with the assistant manager just as we were starting our meal, and gave us a "look." Gulp. Ooops, now we're going to have to walk back to Wendy's and finish our food. Or sit outside in the slush and freezing rain.
As it were, a minute later the assistant manager came up to us, and the following conversation ensued:
A.M. --Excuse me ladies,...
Us --We're really sorry, we're here as part of a group, and we're just joining them--
A.M.--No, no, it's ok...really.
Us -- Oh...ok.
A.M. --My manager is crazy and get's these weird random ideas, sometimes, though...and he would like to offer you each a free meal.
Us -- What? Really? How come? We desecrated your temple with food sacrificed to idols....(ok, we didn't really say that.)
A.M. Well, we're going to make you each what you ordered at Wendy's for free, and you will just tell us which you think is better and fresher.
Us --Oh, sweet! That sounds great!
As the Assistant Manager walks away, I look at the two high school girls sitting with me, and we all just start grinning. "Are we getting pranked right now?" "This is so cool!" "Man, all the other people from youth group are going to be so jealous!" "YEAH, especially the BOYS!"
Hahaha. Especially the one boy that ordered Wendy's with us, but chose to sit with the other boys, and therefore did not receive the free Culver's meal.
Five minutes later, we receive our free food, and it's freshly cooked, served personally by the A.M., and as we find out a few minutes later, made personally by him as well (except for the shakes). We receive a personal visit from the Manager, informing us that all their food is made fresh and is grilled to order without freezing their meat.
Suffice to say, it was a visit well worth the (no) cost, and we thoroughly thanked the staff and Managers for their kindness.
Anyway...in my book, Culver's just climbed up a notch. And they definitely won the Shake vs. Frosty competition.
